Speaker Biographies

David Bennett: Course Leader
Director, David Bennett Associates
David Bennett runs a consultancy which was established in 1990 offering specialist advice to architects, contractors and consulting engineers on the practical application of site cast architectural concrete. He has been appointed as the architectural consultant on multi-storey building projects, art centres and museums and award winning private houses and also gives advice to clients on how to make glass aggregate worktops, concrete furniture and terrazzo floors.

David lectures widely to schools of architecture as well giving CPD style workshops to professional practices, which are supported by The Concrete Centre He is the author of a number of technical and architecture books on concrete including The Architecture of Bridge Design, New Innovation In Concrete and The Architecture of the JLE, all published by Thomas Telford, Exploring Concrete Architecture and Precast Concrete Architecture published by Birkhauser, and recently Concrete Elegance One published by RIBA Publications.

Craig Downie
Craig Downie founded Studiodownie Architects in 1993 and in 1998 and 2001 was included in The Architecture Foundation’s Britain’s Best Young Architectural Practices.

Awards include a Design Business Association (DBA) Design Effectiveness Award for Interiors: Office and commercial, the British Construction Industry (BCI) Awards Judges’ Special Award for an inspirational building for the new Study Centre for the Royal Geographical Society and an RIBA award for the Cass Sculpture Foundation Centre at Goodwood which has also been short listed for a BCI award.

Craig’s work has been published throughout Europe, North America and Asia and in early 2007 the first monograph of Studiodownie’s work was published.
